Is there a way to listen to archive radio recordings of Radio Moscow or Radio Berlin International?
Q. I've been doing some work on the cold war and have found small snip-its of the english (and for Radio Berlin, German) versions of these stations from the period - is anyone aware of a site where you can access these or any other cold war radio recordings (ie: Radio Prague, Bucharest..) wow those links are very useful - my German isn't excellent but I can't seem to find anything on RBI on the archives website?

What is the best sirius radio for a mail truck without a built-in radio?
Q. My dad rides around in a mail truck all day and it doesn't have a radio. He said for fathers day he wanted sirius radio and I don't know which one to get. He was talking about a dock for it and the one I found on Amazon looks like it hooks into a pre-existing radio. If anyone has any idea what radio I need to get, PLEASE point me in the right direction! I can't figure out how to respond, lmao, but they are allowed to have one. He asked for one specifically.

A. I don't think they are allowed to have one. For Fathers Day, have you considered creating a list of why you appreciate him? Answer this survey on that.

A. If it's ONLY an online(internet) service ( i.e. not broadcasting via a radio antenna ) then you wont need a licence.

What causes the radio in a clock radio to come on by itself?
Q. I use the alarm every day but never the radio. It's never set on "radio." It's happened when I'm in the room, so I know nothing / no one has disturbed the clock radio before it pops on. It just sits there quietly for hours and then suddenly comes on by itself. When the radio pops on, it's at totally random times which are never in sync with the programmed alarm time.

A. You probably have a bad radio. If the times are at random you need to take it back to the store. :)

What is the difference between HD radio and satallite radio?
Q. For his birthday, I would like to buy my boyfriend one of these two types of radio for his car, but what is the difference? What is better? I think he would enjoy the different radio stations not available on regular radio, can I get that on both? I am electronically "dumb" and would appreciate any advice from the savvy.

Q. I live in Florida and I love classical music but I always have trouble finding them on my radio. What classical music stations are there that I can listen to on my radio?
Asked by QuestionCGRL92 - Tue Jul 14 14:47:52 2009 - Classical - 4 Answers - Comments

A. There are radio station locator sites, like that will tell you what is available in your are. But when I visit So. Florida every winter, from here in NY - I am struck by entering a wasteland of very little decent classical music - and a WHOLE lot of absolutely crazy, late-night far-right-wing ranting radio talk shows! I usually can find a NPR repeater - but I listen thru the night (Id o not l sleep well in hotels . . ) with headphones, and sometimes am stuck with Canadian all-news ( there's an auditory soporific!) or BBC news - ditto. You might discover that your mp3 player is your new best friend - especially at night. Added - since you said *radio*, I did not mention streaming - which is a GODSEND. You need never listen to 4am right-wing… [cont.]

How does a radio station job work? And can one run without people? Can the music run by itself?
Q. I am writing a movie about the apocalypse. In it, the characters listen to the radio, and it zooms in, and shows the radio station with everybody dead, but music still running. Is there a way to "shuffle" music, or make it run for about a week or so without humans being around? And can you describe more clearly what the job is and how you would do it.

A. Shoutcast ( looks to be the easiest way to start an Internet radio station, the software is free and there are different host options. People can search and find you from the Shoutcast.com homepage or from Winamp. The TV side looks like it is beta, see below.

How does satellite radio work and can it be installed on a radio at home?
Q. I listen to a radio station streaming on the internet via my computer. However i want my mother who is not computer literate to be able to listen also on a radio (not the computer). I went ahead and checked Sirius's website and noticed a channel list. The radio station i have been listening to is not included so i am wondering how to get this resolved.
Asked by Inquirer - Sun Jan 22 21:17:03 2012 - Radio - 6 Answers - Comments

A. You are probably thinking of a 'wifi' radio rather than satellite. There are 'radios' that can connect to a wi-fi access point and deliver internet streamed audio without a 'computer' -- something designed mostly for people who are computer-phobic I assume -- available. This will allow someone to listen to the audio streamed over the internet without using a 'computer' to do so. This is NOT the same thing as satellite radio which is a subscription based service much like cable or satellite TV, but an internet function. If Sirius doesn't carry the station you are looking for, they it won't be on their service, Period. I'd suggest either getting a cheap computer and attaching speakers, and just setting up an 'alias' to allow your mom 'one… [cont.]

Will satellite radio or internet radio through a cell phone work in a concrete building?
Q. I recently got a job at the dept of revenue, and have run through my ipod, and am tired of the radio. I have sirius in my car and love it and was wondering if the stiletto would work inside my work. If not could i get an iphone or something, and would that be able to receive the internet it needs?
Asked by Teekee Weekee - Sun Jul 26 23:41:18 2009 - Radio - 1 Answers - Comments

A. I'm not sure about internet radio through a cell phone - it depends on whether your cell phone browser works in the area. However, unless you have window access, I pretty much doubt the satellite radio will work. Our XM receiver sits on a window sill and sometimes cuts out when a big truck drives by and limits the direct line to the sky. Good luck!

How do radio stations know how many people are listening? Do our radios broadcast back to the station?
Q. I dont think our radios would have enough transmit power to reach a radio station but how else would they know how many listeners they have at one time. And to broaden things , how do television stations know whos watching? Does my cable send messages back to the cable company , then back to the television network? Does my television infringe on my privacy?

A. With the majority of modern car radios, you tune to a station you want, then press *and hold* the button you want to save it on. It will momentarily change to whatever station is already on that button, but after holding it in for a few seconds it will change back to the one you want. It's then been saved.

Why does my radio restart the moment I start my car?
Q. My radio always restarts the moment I start my car.. Is that because my starter motor takes all power from my battery and leaves nothing behind for my radio? My mom her car doesnt have this problem.

A. Is this an aftermarket radio? If so it most aftermarkets have a permanent power feed line on them. Someone may have installed it incorrectly. If it's factory, it's possible that a connection is loose or the radio itself has a short. You may also want to replace the radio fuse in your car to see if that helps.

What happened to the radio signal when someone drives to another state or major city?
Q. SCENARIO: Mariella was driving from Flagstaff, Arizona to Las Vegas, Nevada listening to her favorite radio station. As she reached Hoover Dam, the radio tuned out on her and Mariella was hearing nothing, but static. What do you think happened? Sorry, question mistake, I meant to say: What happens to the radio signal when someone drives to another state or major city?
Asked by The Smart Pineapple - Sat Aug 21 18:22:39 2010 - Car Audio - 3 Answers - Comments

A. The radio signals were too weak to connect to the car's antenna and that's why the radio had static sounds. Mariella probably heard static BEFORE reaching the Hoover Dam as well because she has to pass lots of hills and mountains before reaching Hoover Dam and that will cut off the signal temporarily in Arizona when reaching those physical features. As Mariella was getting further away from the main radio station, the signals were getting weaker and weaker.
