From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A business (also called a firm or an enterprise) is a legally recognized organization designed to provide goods and/or services to consumers. Businesses are predominant in capitalist economies, most being privately owned and formed to earn profit that will increase the wealth of its owners and grow the business itself. The owners and operators of a business have as one of their main objectives the receipt or generation of a financial return in exchange for work and acceptance of risk. Notable exceptions include cooperative businesses and state-owned enterprises. Socialist systems involve either government agencies, public, or worker ownership of most sizable businesses. The etymology of "business" relates to the state of being busy either as an individual or society as a whole, doing commercially viable and profitable work. The term "business" has at least three usages, depending on the scope — the singular usage (above) to mean a particular company or corporation, the generalized usage to refer to a particular market sector, such as "the music business" and compound forms such as agribusiness, or the broadest meaning to include all activity by the community of suppliers of goods and services. However, the exact definition of business, like much else in the philosophy of business, is a matter of debate. Business Studies, the study of the management of individuals to maintain collective productivity to accomplish particular creative and productive goals (usually to generate profit), is taught as an academic subject in many schools. I am opening an online business for website design. (set up as a LLC, I'm the sole owner) Should I start keeping receipts of all business related expenses? Or would my business qualify as a hobby if I don't make a certain amount of money in the year that I'm filing. What types of things can I write off onto my business? (dinners, gasoline, etc.) Do I need a seperate business credit card/bank account for the expenses? Do I have to accept payments towards the business's services through a corporate account, or can they make the check/payment directly to me? Asked by Ken - Tue Jun 19 18:29:52 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. You need to keep accurate records when running a business. This will be your best defense if you ever get audited. For IRS purposes, you need to make a profit every 3 out of 5 years to have the IRS prove that you are not running a business. Otherwise, it is up to you to prove that you are running a business and not doing a hobby. You can prove that you are running a business by keeping your business accounts and personal accounts separate. You can write off any legitimate business expense including dinners with clients, car expenses, equipment, etc. Having a separate checking account and credit card is a good idea. However, it isn't necessary. You can comingle your business and personal expenses using your personal accounts. I came across a chart showing the avarage salaries of business analysts in IT/Computer software/Computer hardware. I do not know what a business analyst does exactly. What course should I take in college to become a business analyst. Currently I'm planing on getting a degree in Business with IT in college, will that enable me to become a business analyst? Asked by Wayne R. - Thu May 17 12:45:28 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yes, the courses you speak of will help you to become a Business Analyst. A BA can be on the client side or the IT side. If on the client side, they are interfacing with work group domains that process the work and review what they need. They generate requirements and then work with the IT side to update or generate processes and applications to fullfil the business needs. If you're a BA on the IT side of the house, then you're taking all the requirements and developing processes and application solutions. Your job is to work with the client to generate a business solutions document (there are many names for it) and get signoff. Then, you need to make sure that solution becomes reality by working with systems analysts, programmers,… [cont.] Answered by Zeltar - Thu May 17 14:02:04 2007 What business credit cards are not attached to my personal credit?
Q. Hello, I am trying to find out how to build my business credit without being attached to my personal credit score. I would like to know if anybody has information regarding what credit cards are available to do this. I would love any free information or links to sites that can tell me how to build my business credit. Thanks!! Asked by Erick R - Sun Feb 17 21:13:19 2008 - - 7 Answers - 2 Comments A. People think once they screw up their own personal credit the next thing they can do is have a business and get credit that way but it doesn't work like that. Your personal social security number and credit rating are going to be used to extablish credit when you start out and even well beyond. Added Reality is as a beginning business you are NOT going to go out and secure credit using an unknown/ unestablished business name or identifying number!
